Babette’s Pavilion

A project to create a ‘place of fun’ within the context of its site, Fritz Hedges Waterway Park and expressing fun through presentation

Fritz Hedges is a south facing waterfront park located in Portage Bay, just south of the University of Washington campus in Seattle, established in 2020. A key observation I made was the lack of a covered space to gather.

I designed a structure around a firepit, countertop. and water basin. The idea of a kitchen intruding on a living room, to create a space of experience around food, is fun! A key element to fun is togetherness, and food is common strand that unites people.

The final task of placing this structure took consideration of shadow line, the hills throughout the park, and the walkways in relation to the other parts of the park.
